The dispatch module in Visual Dispatch manages job scheduling and jobsite data, where each rental is typically associated with a primary job address. In practice, many crane jobs span multiple physical locations—such as separate lift points, staging areas, or delivery zones.
To model those scenarios, the system supports multiple addresses per rental. Each additional address is linked to an existing Job Site record. The primary address is set on the rental’s Job tab; additional addresses are stored as Rental Addresses and can be ordered, annotated, and flagged for delivery.
This enables more precise scheduling, clearer location context for dispatchers and operators, and better alignment with real-world jobsite complexity.
This article outlines how multiple addresses are represented and managed within the dispatch module, along with key considerations for setup and use.
Key concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
Primary address | The main job site selected on the rental’s Job tab. This is the rental’s primary Job record. |
Additional addresses | Extra locations added through Multiple Addresses. Each points to a Job Site from your jobsite list. |
Order | Controls the sequence addresses appear on e-tickets, quotes, and document merge fields. |
Delivery | Optional flag per additional address (pickup/delivery context). |
Address notes | Free-text notes per additional address (Desktop). |
When multiple addresses exist:
- The primary address is labeled “1” on My Jobs and e-tickets.
- Additional addresses appear in order (2, 3, etc.) in the Job Address panel.
- Quote letters, e-tickets, and invoices can include a Multiple Addresses summary (based on document templates).
Desktop App
Follow the steps below to add multiple addresses to a rental.
1. Create or open a rental
Create a new rental or open an existing one, and fill out the required fields on the Customer and other tabs as usual.
2. Go to the Job tab
Open the Job tab on the rental.
3. Set the primary job site
Use Job Site Search to find and select the primary jobsite for the rental:
- Search by job name, location, address, or city.
- Double-click a result (or press Enter) to select it.
- Optionally use New Job to create a new jobsite if it does not exist yet.
Once a primary job is selected, the search panel collapses and the primary job name, address, location, and map links are displayed.
Note: The Multiple Addresses button is only available after a primary job site has been selected (when job search is collapsed).
4. Open Multiple Addresses
Click Multiple Addresses on the Job tab.
The Multiple Addresses window opens and lists any additional addresses already on the rental.
5. Add an additional address
- Click Add.
- A new blank row is added to the address grid.
- Use Job Site Search at the bottom of the window to find the jobsite:
- Choose search scope: All, Job Name, Location, Address, or City.
- Choose Starts with or Contains.
- Type your search text; results update automatically.
- Double-click a jobsite in the search results (or select it and press Enter) to assign it to the row.
Alternatively, click New Job Site to create a brand-new jobsite and assign it to the row.
6. Edit, reorder, or remove addresses
In the Multiple Addresses grid you can:
| Action | How |
|---|---|
Edit / change jobsite | Select a row and click Edit, then search for a different jobsite. |
Change jobsite from grid | Double-click the Job Name, Location, Address, or City cell to search from that value. |
Delete | Select a row and click Delete. |
Reorder | Use Move Up / Move Down to set display and document order. |
Address notes | Enter notes directly in the Address Notes column. |
Delivery | Check Delivery on addresses used as delivery/pickup points. |
You can also use Customer History (if available) to pick jobsites from the customer’s past jobs.
7. Save the Multiple Addresses window
Click OK on the Multiple Addresses window.
- You will be prompted to save if changes were made.
- Blank rows (no jobsite selected) are removed automatically.
8. Save the rental
Click OK on the rental to save the rental and its addresses to the database.
Tip: After additional addresses are saved, the Multiple Addresses button appearance may change to indicate the rental has multiple addresses configured.
Web Portal
Multiple-address management on the Web Portal is currently centered on Simple Quotes. My Jobs displays multiple addresses for operators but does not allow editing them. Edit Rental on the portal manages the primary job site only; use Desktop to add or change additional addresses on an active rental.
Option A — Manage multiple addresses on a Simple Quote
Use this when setting up a job during the quoting process.
1. Create or open a Simple Quote
Open Quotes and create a new Simple Quote, or open an existing one.
2. Go to the Job section
In the quote editor, expand the Job / jobsite section.
3. Set the primary job site
Use the job search tools to select the primary jobsite (same as a normal quote):
- Search and select an existing jobsite, or
- Click New Job to create one.
Confirm the primary Job Name, Address, Location, and city/state/zip appear in the read-only fields.
4. Open Multiple Addresses
Click the Multiple Addresses link below the primary address fields.
The Multiple Addresses modal opens. The primary jobsite appears as the first row (shown in bold).
5. Add additional addresses
- Use the Job Site Search grid at the bottom of the modal (same search behavior as elsewhere on the portal).
Select a jobsite from the search results to add it as a new row.
Or
Click Add, then search for and select a jobsite.
Or
- Click New Job in the search area to create a new jobsite, then add it to the list.
6. Configure each additional address
In the grid you can set:
- Delivery — checkbox per row
- Site Contact, Site Phone, Site Email — per-address contact fields
Use Edit to modify an existing jobsite’s details, Delete to remove a row, and Move Up / Move Down to change order.
The primary row’s jobsite details come from the main Job section on the quote. Additional rows are selected from your jobsite list.
7. Save the modal and the quote
- Click OK in the Multiple Addresses modal.
- Save the quote.
When the quote is converted to a rental, the multiple addresses carry forward to the rental.
Option B — View multiple addresses on My Jobs (e-ticket)
Operators and field staff can view multiple addresses but cannot edit them from My Jobs.
1. Open the job in My Jobs
Navigate to My Jobs and open the rental/ticket for the day.
2. Review the primary address
The main job panel shows the primary address. If multiple addresses exist, fields are labeled with “1” (e.g., Job Name 1, Location 1).
3. Expand Job Address
If additional addresses exist, a Job Address accordion panel appears. Expand it to see a read-only grid of all addresses.
4. Open a location in maps
Click a row in the address grid to open that location in Google Maps (when address or lat/long is available).
To change multiple addresses on an active rental, use Visual Dispatch Desktop (steps above).
Where multiple addresses appear
| Area | Behavior |
|---|---|
Desktop rental Job tab | Primary address displayed; Multiple Addresses for additional sites |
Simple Quote (Web) | Full add/edit/reorder via Multiple Addresses link |
My Jobs / e-ticket (Web) | Read-only display; primary labeled 1, extras in Job Address panel |
Quote letters / e-tickets / invoices | Can include multiple-address blocks (template-dependent; |
Edit Rental (Web) | Primary jobsite only — no Multiple Addresses link |
Best practices and considerations
- Set the primary address first. Additional addresses cannot be managed until the main jobsite is selected on the Job tab (Desktop) or quote Job section (Web).
- Use existing Job Sites when possible. Each additional address should reference a jobsite from Lists → Job Sites (or one created via New Job Site / New Job) so addresses stay consistent across rentals.
- Use order intentionally. Sequence addresses in the order operators or customers should read them (lift point 1, lift point 2, staging area, etc.).
- Use Address Notes for context. On Desktop, add short notes (e.g., “South yard lift”, “Material delivery gate”) to clarify each location.
- Delivery flag. Use Delivery only where that location represents a delivery or pickup point relevant to billing or operations.
- Quotes vs. active rentals. On the Web Portal, configure multiple addresses on the Simple Quote before conversion, or maintain them on the Desktop rental after the job is live.
- Permissions. Users need appropriate permissions to create/edit jobsites and modify rental or quote job information. If addresses cannot be changed, verify job and rental edit permissions.
