Understanding Captions in Visual Dispatch
Within Visual Dispatch - both the web and desktop versions - many fields can be renamed to align with a company’s internal terminology and workflow. This flexibility ensures the system reflects the way the business operates, making it easier for staff to input and track information.
How Captions work
Captions allow customization of system fields. For example, any of the fields labeled as “Misc” can be renamed to something more meaningful for the process, such as “Type of Plan.” Once a caption is updated, any information entered under that field will carry throughout the system, maintaining consistency in the data.
How to Update Captions
In VisD desktop, navigate to Tools -> Options -> Applications -> Captions
In this section, two key columns are displayed:
- Caption ID (left side) – the system’s default field identifier.
- Caption (right side) – the field that can be edited to match business terminology.
Click on the Caption (right side) that you would like to change and type the new information.
The corresponding field in both the desktop and web versions will show the updated caption after refreshing or logging out and back into the program.
Using Captions in Templates
The Caption ID is not only for system reference - it can also be used in templates to dynamically pull data. This ensures that reports and documents reflect the custom field names and associated data correctly.
